The Manchester Ice Rink is once again coming to First Street following a hugely successful launch last year.  This year, the 15m x 20m ice rink will remain open right through the holiday season from15th November to 6th January, and pre-launch prices will start at just £10.00 – with special rates available for group and corporate bookings.

Last year, thousands of visitors skated at First Street and the Manchester Ice Rink 2018 looks set to be even more fun-packed this time around.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the locally-curated Worker Bee Markets which will bring together Manchester-made artisan talent – with stalls offering handmade crafts, jewellery, unique food gifts, decorations and treats.  The pop-up market stalls will be at First Street on Wednesday 5th, 12th and 19th December from 12 noon – 6pm. Worker Bee Markets was conceived by experienced market trader Clare Simpson, who this year wasa Best Small Business finalist at the Northern Soul Awards.

Commenting on the return of the rink, a spokesperson for CBRE, which manages the estate, said: “The Manchester Ice Rink at First Street was a huge success last year and we are delighted to welcome it back for a second season which will be even bigger and better than before. The Worker Bee Markets will be the perfect place to shop for Christmas treats and offer a real alternative to shopping in the busy city centre.”

CBRE’s spokesperson continued: “There’s plenty of space at First Street – it’s very family-friendly – but also has superb nightlife, so we see a lot of young students and professionals visiting for an evening out, meaning we’ll have later skate sessions too. It’s a relaxed Christmas experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping streets.”

First Street’s food and drink operators – including Pizza Express, Starbucks, Indian Tiffin Room, Kettlebell Kitchen, School for Scandal, Junkyard Golf Club, Bunny Jacksons, WOOD Manchester and Gasworks Brewbar – will have special offers, deals and discounts for skaters visiting First Street. Winter warmers, such as hot toddy’s and mulled wine, will also be served from Simon Wood’s, WoodShack pop-up bar, and people can enjoy drinks and watch the skating from the terrace of the INNSIDE Manchester hotel which overlooks the rink.

HOME, First Street’s destination for international arts and culture, are showing two family-friendly theatre shows whilst the rink is in town – White, for ages 2-4, and Dutch musical Slapstick for slightly older children. In addition, they’ll have regular screenings of classic feel-good festive films – you can find the full line-up on their website.

Bookings are now being taken and the rink will be open every weekday from 3.00pm with the final session at 8.00pm and open every weekend from 10.00am.

Online ticket sales are now live at www.manchestericerink.co.uk or call 0161 8209718

The landmark Manchester building is launching a magical winter market with a real ice rink, street food stalls and bars

Manchester’s landmark London Road Fire Station building is to be transformed into a winter wonderland with its own ice skating rink in the run-up to Christmas.

The real ice rink will take over the courtyard outside the stunning Grade II listed building, along with street food stalls, bars and a market inside and out, when The Winter Gathering festival launches in November.

The space will also be home to a pop-up art gallery, while by night it will take on an after-hours party vibe with a programme of live music and DJ sets from internationally acclaimed acts to be announced.

The event is a collaboration between developer Allied London, London-based Elemental Events and creative production company The Halo Group.

Jay Ogugua, from Elemental Events, said: “London Road is the perfect venue to create a magical experience on the run-up to Christmas. The vibe of the place is already very special and we are building on this atmosphere to construct an incredible space for people to come and hang out in where they can eat, drink, skate and dance.”

Manchester Ice Rink is set to return this winter and for the first time in eight years it’s on the move! New Bailey, which is just a pirouette, spin and axel jump away from Spinningfields, is ready to play host to the city centre’s largest outdoor rink, inviting people to lace up their boots from Thursday, November 12th until Sunday, January 3rd.

The ice rink is part of a festive hub of activity at New Bailey, with fairground rides, festive choristers, DJs, themed sessions and family entertainment all taking place over the winter period. Junior skaters or wobbly adults can buddy up with Penguin Skating Supports, whilst the helpful staff on the rink make the experience easy, safe and super-fun!

Open to the public seven days a week from 10.00am until 9pm at weekends and 3.00pm until 9pm Monday – Friday, the rink will also provide a viewing platform for those who would rather spectate than skate. And for those who feel a bit peckish after all that exercise, there is a selection of bars, cafes and restaurants in the local neighbourhood, and a steady stream of mulled wine to put people in the festive mood!

Tickets start at £9.00 for adults, with discounts for student nights and family tickets. There is also parking available on site at the NCP car park.

Libby Witherden, Head of Marketing and Events at New Bailey, said; “The Manchester Ice Rink has become something of an institution in the city centre and with its move this year, we’re keen to make sure people know where to go! There is a whole festive line-up planned at New Bailey over the winter and we’re looking forward to seeing people lacing up their boots and hitting the ice!”

Phil Mayall, development director at New Bailey, said: “The ice rink has become the number one event in the city’s Christmas calendar so we are extremely pleased to be hosting it at New Bailey this year. We have invested a great deal in the new events space at New Bailey which is situated next to the NCP car park and Premier Inn, and we are delighted that our first event is such a popular one.”
